Why We Built FreshPassPhoto
Commercial passport photo services charge $15 to $25 to snap two photos on a point-and-shoot camera. For families of four, renewing passports can easily cost $100 just in photos before application fees.
Modern smartphones have cameras that are more than capable of capturing 300 DPI biometric portraits. What applicants lacked was a simple, precise tool to verify head proportions, remove home wall shadows, and layout printable grids to avoid rejection.
We built FreshPassPhoto to give travelers everywhere a free, fast, and completely private tool to prepare passport photos conforming to international ICAO Doc 9303 standards.
Privacy by Design: Zero Biometric Storage
Unlike many commercial apps that upload your facial photographs to remote cloud servers to train AI models or build biometric databases, FreshPassPhoto operates entirely client-side.
All image cropping, background adjustments, contrast filtering, and 4x6 print tiling are processed locally inside your web browser’s memory using the standard HTML5 Canvas API. Your face never leaves your computer or phone.
